The GENERATION study follows the journey of young Australians, as they transition to life beyond school.
This landmark national study of students from over 300 schools across the country aims to reflect the collective experience of young Australians – while providing both participants and educators valuable insights into young people’s career interests and post-school activities. GENERATION started in 2022 with a representative cohort of Year 10 students from Australian schools. Young people are surveyed annually, planned until 2032.
This year we are conducting our fourth survey. For the first time, we invite eligible young people in their first year of university to also participate in the survey.
This year is an important time as you transition to life beyond school. We want to hear about your reflections and experiences of high school and your activities in 2025. No matter where you are in your schooling journey, we want to hear from you.
Your participation is very important so that State and Federal Governments can improve services for young people across Australia.
From 2025, GENERATION will be composed of two groups.
01.
You are a continuing GENERATION participant whose school participated in the first survey of GENERATION. You were invited to participate in Wave 1 as a Year 10 student from your school during 2022 and have been recontacted for follow up surveys, including Wave 2 in 2023 and Wave 3 in 2024. We now invite you to participate in Wave 4.
02.
You have received information about the GENERATION study and have been asked to provide your contact details at the end of your Student Experience Survey (SES). By providing your contact information, you have not yet joined the study; you have only agreed to potentially receive an invitation to complete the survey.
We are asking only those eligible young people, who were in Year 10 at an Australian school in 2022, to provide their contact information. If you choose to provide your contact information, you may receive an invitation to complete the Wave 4 survey. You will be asked to provide information about your high school experience and your current transitions to life after high school. We will also ask you some information about your background and who you are and were as a Year 10 student.
GENERATION is a chance to share your unique story – what you care about, what you're interested in, and what you hope for in the future.
You will be asked to voluntarily participate in a 30 minute online survey.
You have the right to withdraw from the study at any time, and have your information removed from further use.
Your answers will not be identifiable.
GENERATION spotlights the factors that influence the educational journey of young people in Australia.
If you complete the GENERATION survey, you will also receive an incentive as a thank you for your time.
